EUNICE, LA--The Cajen food in Louisiana is known to be hot, but the state can add Lady Lakers sophomore, Samantha Valentine's bat to the menu as she tallies her forth multi-hit game in Lake Land College's first four softball games of the season, this latest victory over the Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College (MS).

After breaking a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning with the go-ahead run, the Lady Lakers never looked back, adding four more runs in the fourth to make it 6-1, Lake Land.

Co-Lin managed a run in the top of the fifth to come within four at 6-2, but Lake Land walked off with an eight-run rule win in the fifth by plating four more, completing a 10-2 victory.

Valentine (Monticello, IL; Monticello High School) went two-for-four for the second time Saturday at a weekend tournament hosted by Louisiana State University at Eunice. The day before, Valentine went 2-for-3 twice, making her 8-for-14 (.571) over the course of four games in two days as Lake Land gets their 2017 campaign underway on their first spring trip south.

Freshman pitcher, Dezirae Leonard (Dwight, IL; Dwight Township High School), spiced things up even more with a hot hand from the circle, tossing a five-inning, two-hit, complete game, allowing a couple of runs. Leonard gave up two walks, but answered those with a pair of strikeouts. The freshman out of Dwight faced 22 Lady Wolves on her way to picking up her second win of the day and the season in one afternoon.

Bailey Gowin
Sophomore, Bailey Gowin (Mt. Zion, IL; Mt. Zion High School) went 2-for-3 in her first official at bats of the season, scoring a run.

Freshman, Addison Baele (Washington, IL; Washington Community High School), went 1-for-4, swiping a base, and notching her first two RBI of the season. Baele was 2-for-6 for Saturday's games.

Continuing to swing a productive bat, freshman, Monica Menas (Crystal Lake, IL; Crystal Lake Central High School) went 1-for-4, stealing a base, scoring once, and adding another RBI to her Saturday game totals. Menas has hit in each of her three games thus far, going 5-for-13 (.385).

Freshman, Kendra Gengenbacher (Quincy, IL; Quincy Notre Dame High School) went 1-for-3 from the cleanup spot, providing a couple RBI and stealing one base. Like Menas, Gengenbacher is off to a great start, also 5-for-13 (.385) in four games, and leading the Lady Lakers in RBI with seven.

Sophomore, Tegan Murphy (Munter, IN; Munster High School) recorded her first hit of the season, going 1-for-2 and scoring a run.

Sophomore Madison Boone (Shelbyville, IL; Shelbyville High School) and freshman, Haylee Short (Hillsboro, MO; Hillsboro High School--unverified) both recorded 1-for-2 games with a run scored each.

Freshman, Britt Remmers (Werkendam, Netherlands), was hitless in two at-bats, but scored a run and notched a RBI.

Freshman, Kendall Hastings (Riverside, IL; Riverside-Brookfield High School) scored a run. Hastings did not record an official at-bat in the game versus Co-Lin, but over the course of her first four games, is 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, a pair of doubles, and a sacrifice.

Lake Land is 3-1 after the weekend tourney and will play again next weekend in Marianna, Florida at the Chipola Tournament.
