Menas doubles twice as Lady Lakers notch victory in extras

Menas scored a run and earned a RBI as well in a game that found Lake Land down 4-3 after six innings.

Starting Lake Land pitcher, sophomore, Katelyn Fisher (Mattoon, IL; Mattoon High School) tossed six complete innings, giving up 10 hits and four runs, three of those earned. Fisher struck out one Lady Raven and issued no free passes, facing 29 batters

As the designated visiting team, Lake Land scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-apiece.

Freshmen hurler, Dezirae Leonard (Dwight, IL; Dwight Township High School), took over in the bottom of the seventh inning, and along with the Lake Land defense, prevented Coffeyville from any type of walk-off win.

Lake Land plated the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Leonard and the Lady Lakers then shut down the Lady Ravens in the bottom half of the frame, marking their second win of the season against one loss.

Leonard pitched two complete innings in relief, allowing two hits while striking out one Lady Raven. Leonard faced eight Coffeyville batters.

Seven Lady Lakers recorded hits in the game, with multi-hit performances by Menas, sophomore, Samantha Valentine (Monticello, IL; Monticello High School), and freshman, Kendra Gengenbacher (Quincy, IL; Quincy Notre Dame High School).

Valentine, who had gone 4-for-6 over the first two games of the season the day before, went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot, scoring a run, adding a RBI, doubling (her third of the season), and clouting a solo home run (her first of the season).

Gengenbacher also went 2-for-4, plating once and stealing a bag.

Freshman, Addison Baele (Washington, IL; Washington Community High School), recorded her first basehit of the season. Sophomore, Tegan Murphy (Munster, IN; Munster High School) was hitless in one at bat, but contributed with a RBI off a sacrifice. Freshman, Haylee Short (Hillsboro, MO; Hillsboro High School--unverified) marked her first hit and scored a run.

Also, recording her first hit of the season was sophomore, Madison Boone (Shelbyville, IL; Shelbyville High School). Freshman, Kendal Hastings (Riverside, IL; Riverside-Brookfield High School) went 1-for-3 with a double (her second of the season, scoring once and marking a sacrifice. Hastings has a hit in each of her first two games.
