Schultz two-way Top-20 in NJCAA national rankings

Ambrose goes Top-20 in block solos
Brasel's aces earn a Top-50 ranking

MATTOON--Lake Land College sophomore Libero, Rachel Schultz (Stewardson, St. Anthony High School) recently reached Top-20 status in the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Rankings for individual players in two different categories.

After adding 43 digs over the weekend in Decatur at matches played at Millikin University, Schultz brings her season total to 416, ranking her16th in the nation. Schultz earned a second ranking of 16th with 5.20 assists per set, giving her two national rankings in the Top-20.

Teammate, defensive specialist, sophomore, Rachel Mullen (St. Joseph, St. Joseph-Ogden High School) remains in the nation's Top-100 in digs with a season total of 262.

The Lady Lakers setters, sophomore, Maria Brasel (Kinmundy, South Central High School), and freshman, Emily Watson, (Mattoon, Mattoon High School) continue to show well in the national rankings for assists.

Watson ranks 96th in the country in assists per set, averaging 4.58. Watson is less than ten ranking positions from cracking the Top-100 in total assists. At 5.76 assists per set, Brasel ranks 62nd in the nation, and currently holds a Top-50 ranking in total assists, ranking her 43rd with 472 assists thus far on the season.

Brasel recently jumped up the rankings in service aces, her 0.37 service aces per set average ranking her 84th. Cracking the Top-50, Brasel ranks 45th in the country for her 30 total service aces on the season.

Freshman, Ryann Ambrose (Shelbyville, Shelbyville High School) also claims a Top-20 ranking nationally with 19 block solos. Offensively, Ambrose goes Top-50 in hitting percentage at .342, earning her a ranking of 25th in the country. In total points, Ambrose's 240 ranks her 81st. Ambrose cracked the Top-100 in total kills with 186, giving her a national ranking of 99th.

Still holding Top-100 rankings in five categories, sophomore, Nathayla de Souza (Sau Paulo, Brazil) claims four in the Top-50. De Souza's best national ranking is 27th in kills with 269 on the season. A 3.28 kills per set average ranks de Souza 36th in the land. With 306.5 total points, de Souza ranks 31st. De Souza ranks 41st in points per set with an average of 3.7. De Souza's fifth national ranking comes in block solos, where she has tallied 17 on the season to rank her 86th in the nation.
